Cake for a 50th Birthday Party

A friend of mine from church asked me to make this cake for her mom's 50th birthday party! The cake was alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate, filled and frosted in chocolate butter cream and covered in fondant. The scroll work was done in royal icing. The "L" monogram on the top of the cake is meant to stand up, but because she is flying with the cake, it has to lie down until she reaches her destination. : )

  2. Oh my goodness, this is STUNNING! When C. said yesterday that she was flying with the cake, I couldn't figure out why she just wouldn't get it there. DUH, now I know -- because she had to have YOU make it if it was going to turn out this beautiful! I love the dark swirls (I guess you called it "scrollwork") on the white; it's just beautiful.

  3. You are an arteest!! This is gorgeous - sure puts those Costco cakes with the name scribbled on it to shame! :) The scrollwork is incredible - well the whole thing is!
